YMMV / SMG4 - All I Want For Christmas Is Mario To FREAKIN BEHAVE

• Misblamed: While even Mario himself admitted to starting the chain of events that led to Axol Jr.'s injury, several fans, including nearly every major Youtube reactor, pointed out that placing the ENTIRE blame on Mario was too extreme. Plus, Axol Junior himself appeared to consent to Mario's plan since Mario had promised him a portion of the turkey.
  • How did Melony even KNOW to blame Mario? No one was looking when he threw Axol Junior at Bob's face. Melony was the only one in a position to have seen it but we're shown she was focused on Meggy until Bob started screaming, and at no point did Bob say what happened, assuming he even knew how an axolotl landed on his face. Furthermore, it was SMG3 kicking a nerdified SMG4 into Bob (who had been smashing Axol Jr into the wall and floor up to that point) that sent Axol Jr. flying into the Good Soup. This failure of explanation – we the viewers were shown everything but the characters were not – rises nearly to the level of Plot Hole and results in the cast seeming to gang up on Mario for little reason.
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Many fans were unhappy about Axol Junior's backstory retcon (heavily impliying through flashback that Melony got Axol Junior from a pet store as opposed to Mario manifesting him into existence through magic), since the original from "If Mario Was In… Nickelodeon" was seen as a kind gesture towards Melony on Mario's part shortly after the death of her boyfriend, that was completely undone just to make Mario a jerk for this episode.
  • While it's also true that in his original debut, Melony had no idea where Axol Jr came from – thus Melony could have tried to explain the unexplainable to Meggy et al – and Mario was quite insane from fairy powers at the time and may not have even remembered he gifted her Axol Jr., it's been shown both before this episode and since that Mario cares about Melony more than he cares about most other characters, so forcibly changing past events to remove Mario's involvement rubbed some fans the wrong way.
