YMMV / Sheena

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The main theme aside, Richard Hartley's score for the film is quite powerful.
  • Best Known for the Fanservice: Not only does Tanya Roberts wear skimpy outfits throughout, but she has an uncensored bathing scene... in a PG movie, no less!
  • Cliché Storm: The film combines not just the whole list of Jungle Opera cliches (befitting a character originating from pulp stories), but also throws the early 80s adventure flick formula into the mix. And it actually works with the right mindset.
  • Complete Monster: The Evil Prince Otwani schemes to take the throne of Tigora and mine the rich Earth of the Gudjara Mountain, assassinating his good-hearted brother and poisoning his own associates to assure his rise to power. Meeting complications from the resisting native Zambuli tribes, Otwani attempts to exterminate them all, leading his forces towards Gudjara Mountain and even allowing his bloodthirsty soldiers to completely wipe out a nearby village to slake their bloodlust. Otwani only spares the jungle warrior Sheena for his own lascivious purposes and attempts to have her partner murdered for the transgression of slapping him.
  • Fridge Logic: Nobody came looking for Sheena's parents? If they had, they would've almost certainly taken custody of little Sheena (then Janet). And what exactly did the tribe do with the Ameses' truck and gear?
  • Moral Event Horizon: The soldiers burn down a village and massacre the people, just to make a point. The pilot machine-gunning the antelope could also count.
  • Narm:
    • Betsy yelling out her daughter's name, precipitating the cave-in. "JANET!!!"
    • Otwani's efforts to act horrified when his brother is killed by the trap he set up. "My God!"
    • Chango using his trunk to dig a grave for the mortally wounded Shaman, and his mournful trumpeting when she dies.
    • The entire sequence where flamingos attack the helicopter. Zanda and the pilot halfheartedly attempting to fend off the ravaging avians and the pilot getting his eyes pecked out come across as more than a little silly.
    • Soldier Anders catches one of the great big boulders the tribe are rolling down on the bad guys, holds it to himself, and then propels himself backwards to simulate being struck.
    • The badly burned Vic's "dying words" at the end. "I've had it baby." - "All I can think of to say is 'shit!'"
  • So Okay, It's Average: Generally regarded as a decent but unremarkable movie.
  • Special Effect Failure:
    • Sheena's "zebra" is clearly a horse with stripes painted on.
    • The attacking "birds" are obviously sock puppets.
    • Sheena is supposed to be barefoot, but there are scenes where she is clearly wearing sandals.
  • Tear Jerker: The death of the Shaman.
  • Vindicated by Cable: The film silently left cinemas with nothing to its name beyond scathing reviews. Then came countless cable reruns that made it a cult thing.
