YMMV / Rick and Morty S3 E10: "The Rickchurian Mortydate"

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: Rick's manipulations to become head of the household and push out Jerry explode in his face because of his own bullheaded and stubborn nature. When Morty tells him his parents are back together, all Rick can do is desperately scream whatever he hopes can fix his situation. By then it's too little, too late and Rick's position as head of the family is usurped. After a whole season of him rolling in his newfound authority and his smugness in this episode alone, Rick's demotion is a breath of fresh air.
  • Crazy Is Cool: He does lose in the end, but the President of the United States puts up a huge fight against Rick as part of an attempt to detain him, pulling out all the stops. Rick is on the ropes for quite a while when faced with ninja children and when the president gets a mecha suit.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The dinosaur stripper in the background of Rick's meeting with the world leaders at the interdenominational strip club. For obvious reasons, she quickly received a lot of Self-Fanservice fanart.
  • Fanon: Thanks to Rick's line about Minecraft being for autistic people because he enjoyed it, many fans and even professional journalists have made the interpretation that Rick is autistic (it helps that Dan Harmon is as well).
  • Fridge Logic: Rick is afraid of pirates, but also created Pirates of the Pancreas.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In this episode, Rick complains about South Park beating them to a Minecraft reference. A couple of months later, that show does a scene that's practically identical to the satellite scene from this episode.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: The President is supposed to be a jerk for how he gets mad at Rick, especially when the guy brokers world peace and credits him. The thing is he understands that Rick is messing with him, and stays calm outwardly. His actions are completely reasonable in politely expelling Rick and Morty from the White House, before Rick kills a Secret Service agent.
