YMMV / RWBY Recaps

Go To

  • Crosses the Line Twice: Like there's no tomorrow. The best moment would have to be Jaune's upgrade to his sword: Yang's severed arm on the end. Other moments include:
    • Pyrrha broadcasting from Hell. Funny, but still sad to people. Pyrrha complaining how all the skeletons (As in skeleton arms sticking out of the ground) make her give them high-fives all day. All sadness goes out the window.
    • Port apparently had 12 strokes in a matter of minutes. Oobleck declares him immortal.
    • "Weiss Sets Everyone On Fire"
    • His numerous Raven abandonment jokes would be rather dark and unfunny if he didn't take literally every opportunity to make them. It's even lampshaded in his "Menagerie" recap:
Matt: Well we're at the end of this recap so let's celebrate with one last Raven Joke:
So A Yang and a Raven walk into a bar. Yang recognizes her mother but Raven avoids confrontation by jumping into a portal. Devastated, Yang breaks down into tears then and there, because it happened again and this time she's old enough to truly feel it. No one comforts her.
    • Similarly, his "prediction" for Yang's character arc in Volume 4. Yang losing an arm and having her partner run away to protect her from Adam? Not funny. Yang losing her other arm in a woodchipper, and having her partner run away again when she sees the hospital bill? Hilarious.
    Yang: why
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The running gag about Pyrrha dying isn't as funny after the end of Volume 3, when it actually happens.
  • Heartwarming Moments: In the V3E12 recap, he goes on a little bit about his pity for Taiyang, to the point of sympathizing with him saying that he's glad to have his kids back home. Mind you, he's the guy who made Taiyang into a Memetic Sex God that you see on the internet so it shows (if it hadn't before) that no matter how much he mocks the characters, Matt still loves them and their series.
    • The entirety of the Volume 3 recaps can be viewed as this as there was very little humor then and honestly RWBY fans needed his humor.
  • I Knew It!:
    • The creator was one of many fans who believed Blake was a Faunus working for the White Fang. This theory was confirmed in Episode 15 (although he was wrong about the specifics).
    • The constant jokes about Pyrrha being doomed were proven correct as of "The End of the Beginning", wherein Cinder kills her.
  • Memetic Mutation: A lot of Matt's jokes have spread throughout the RWBY fandom, but Taiyang impregnating his entire team is easily the most popular.
    Qrow: Uhh...
    Taiyang: Entire. Team.
