YMMV / Q-Force

Go To

  • Designated Hero: That the whole team are just LGBT stereotypes incarnate makes it harder to watch and support the team.
  • Jerkass Woobie: In "Tarzana", Q-Force (minus Mary) decide to get back at Buck by pranking him. In the course of the prank, Buck reveals his childhood backstory which proves to be tragic enough to make Twink briefly break character and Deb to tearfully pull the plug on the operation. They spend the rest of the episode trying to make it up to Buck, despite their history.
  • Memetic Mutation: "These hips do lie. And they lied to you, Buck. Shakira, Shakira."Explanation
  • Offending the Creator's Own: While the show was created by two gay men, Gabe Liedman and Sean Hayes, and features a cast of LGBTQ voice actors like Hayes, Wanda Sykes, Matt Rogers, and Patti Harrison, this hasn't stopped some in the queer community from criticizing the show for depictions of what they perceived to be Camp Gay stereotypes.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: It's hard to bring up the show without the controversy surrounding it. From the beginning, the initial trailer instantly got backlash by both non and LGBT+ people, resulting in it garnering a large dislike ratio on Youtube, even the creators themselves are not amused by how Netflix formatted it. When the show proper came out, it still came under fire for the main characters being too stereotypical to be enjoyable. The overall mixed reception and controversy surrounded it resulted in the show ultimately being cancelled after one season.
  • Rooting for the Empire: considering the whole team are LGBT stereotypes incarnate it makes more sense to root for the villains and harder to support the heroes.
  • The Scrappy: Out of all the characters Twink by far gets the most hate for his appearance and annoying voice, basically taking Jasper and making him a main character.
  • Tainted by the Preview: Some viewers, LGBTQ or otherwise, ripped the show apart before it even aired because of the trailers released by Netflix, claiming that it relied too much on stereotyping and old jokes about queer people.
