  • Never Live It Down: As explained in the other entries, the book is quite rich in content and was, in many ways, ahead of its time, but that has been undermined by Paul's very niche views on theropod taxonomy and some of his pet theories. Most people nowadays just know it as the book that lumped Deinonychus into Velociraptor, leading to the chimeric portrayal in the ''Jurassic Park" franchise.
  • Older Than They Think:
    • Paul accurately describes Spinosaurus as a relative of Baryonyx that would have had a similar crocodile-esque snout (unfortunately, he offers no illustration or skeletal), about a decade before this would become mainstream (thanks to the new Spinosaurus fossils described from Morroco's Kem Kem Beds, which would be reflected by Jurassic Park III), and also acknowledges that it was quite large (giving it a potential length of 15 meters).
    • Most of the common criticism against Jack Horner's dubious argument that T. rex was an obligate scavenger in Valley of the T-Rex is echoed verbatim here, when Paul expresses frustration about the then-growing notion that large theropods were lumbering scavengers incapable of hunting, and explains in detail how these animals were built to be skillful predators and how unfeasible a scavenging lifestyle would be for anything other than a soaring bird. He ends that chapter by optimistically expressing hope that he has put the scavenger hypothesis to rest, but as history has shown us, he didn't.
