YMMV / Powerless (2017)

  • Base-Breaking Character: The main trio of Teddy, Wendy and Ron. They provide some great laughs but, for some, can come across as too mean spirited compared to how Emily honestly tries to befriend them, making them look too selfish and bratty to be likeable. Especially Wendy.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: In one scene, the main cast is watching the news, which is reporting on Lois Lane's death. Ron finds this awesome because there are theories going about that Lois has died before and that Superman turned back time to save her, so they can do whatever they want without consequence until then. When asked why he should be believed, the news then reports that Stephen Hawking has just pushed Neil DeGrasse Tyson into oncoming traffic — presumably, for the same reason.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Christina Kirk, who plays Jackie, is seen as this, to Spotlight-Stealing Squad levels.
    • The superhero Green Fury only gets two episodes, but is highly popular for her visually interesting powers and for being the only hero in the show to get a significant arc and realistically notable problems of her own during her limelight episode.
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Many people who've seen the original unaired pilot (where there's still some decent comedy, but the characters work at an insurance company and have a True Companions The Real Heroes vibe) feel that scrapping that format badly hurt the show's quality.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The show was pulled before the episode guest-starring Adam West aired. When this turned out to be one of his last roles with his death later that year, NBC put the whole episode on Youtube for free.
  • Spiritual Adaptation: The series is probably the closest thing to a Damage Control television series, given that the show is basically a direct adaptation only with The DCU.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Olympian having a Secret Identity at Wayne Security, Ron thinking Bruce is the Flash, Green Fury and Olympian having an ill-fated celebrity romance, Emily befriending Green Fury, Emily dating a Riddler henchman, Lex Luthor being President of the United States, Emily betting on Crimson Fox in a Fantasy Superhero League, Ron being from Atlantis, Van briefly learning Bruce is Batmannote , and Batman using the technology the heroes develop are all only brought up in one episode apiece despite having decent entertainment potential and tying the story into the bigger DC universe.
  • Unexpected Character: Surprisingly there is a Frostbite in DC Comics.
