• Anticlimax Boss: Xerneas saves everyone from Yveltal simply by blocking Yveltal's attacks, then connecting with it and calming it down rather than battling it.
• Ass Pull: Diancie is somehow able to create its own Mega Stone without even realizing it and is able to Mega Evolve without the help of Key Stone like in the games.
• Awesome Music: "Open My Eyes", the English-language ending song, is possibly the best that came out of Ed Goldfarb's dub score.
• Creepy Awesome: Yveltal, who defies the (long) trend of Pokémon antagonists being Not Evil, Just Misunderstood and is a Knight of Cerebus.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Marilyn and Riot, the Affably Evil, fairly non-malicious thieves have some fans.
• First Installment Wins: Of the X & Y series films. This film, considered by most as So Okay, It's Average, was the only one to escape real backlash. It is also the only film that wasn't a Box Office Bomb.
• She Really Can Act: Sarah Natochenny does a very effective job at selling Ash's grief over Pikachu's Disney Death.
• So Okay, It's Average: General consensus for the movie is that it's "cute, but predictable", with the lack of a full Xerneas vs. Yveltal fight being a point against it.
• Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Granted, it's considered "alright-ish" by most, but it's at least seen in a better light than the widely-despised Pokémon: Genesect and the Legend Awakened, and regarded more highly than the other two Kalos movies (which are perceived as "pretty bad" and "predictable").
• They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Shinji Miyazaki's score being replaced with Ed Goldfarb's score for the dub was not well received; especially since keeping Miyazaki's music for the movies completely intact was always greatly appreciated compared to the 4Kids dubs of the earlier movies.
• Tear Jerker: Has its own page.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Xerneas could have been developed as a Mentor to Diancie and/or a Foil to Yveltal. Instead, its interactions with the main characters are severely limited, it lacks a proper fight scene with Yveltal and ends up just changing into a tree to save the day and replenish the forest.
