* RomanticPlotTumor / TokenRomance: While not taking up an excessive amount of screen time, Beca and Jesse's romantic subplot adds little to the film and seems somewhat obligatory. Beca's growing to accept that she likes being a Bella could easily have been character growth enough.
** In the sequel, the relationship is fairly stable and Jesse gets mostly DemotedToExtra. The Benji/Emily sublot, while contributing little to the plot, also takes considerably less screentime than Jesse/Beca in the original.

** All of shots at Series/{{Glee}} since Skylar Astin has joined the cast of the show.

** At the Acapella Worlds Championship in the sequel, Gail makes a comment "no one cares about the Korean group". Few years after the film, the popularity of K-pop music genre would grow to reach international recognition and overseas billboard charts and awards, with boy band [=BTS=] being one of the most recognized K-Pop artists.

* LGBTFanbase: Quite the large lesbian following, not surprising for its mostly female cast and girl-power message, an actual canon lesbian character (whose sexuality isn't confirmed by most of the film not because she is closeted, but because she's so comfortable with it that she feels no need to make an issue of it) and [[FanPreferredCouple Chloe's rather un-ambiguous fondness for Beca]] (and some other Bellas as well).

** "Bologna" Barb, for her boobs and the way she rubs in just how far the Bellas have fallen since Aubrey's humiliation when they beg her to join them.

* DesignatedVillain: Evermoist in the third one is not really being a bunch of jerks for performing with their instruments and upstaging the Bellas in the USO show because they’re just doing their thing and realistically believe that the Bellas doing a cappella is logically at their own disadvantage. If anything, the Bellas come off as the jerks because Evermoist didn’t play by [[ProtagonistCenteredMorality 'their' rules]]. Rules which were only truly for a cappella to begin with. That said, they ''are'' much bitchier to the Bellas than the other groups.

* DieForOurShip: Chicago Walp, the soldier who flirts with Chloe in the second trailer for the third movie, started getting this from Beca/Chloe shippers the instant the trailer dropped.

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Das Sound Machine in the sequel for being vastly superior musically and performance-wise. It helps that the creators relied more on [[GermanicDepressives racial stereotypes]] rather than actual character flaws to [[DesignatedVillain force the audience to hate them]] and [[DesignatedHero support the Bellas]].
** Bumper, thanks to Adam Devine's performance.

* TheScrappy:
** Fat Amy is this for some; some viewers find her to be too obnoxious to be likable, and find the near-constant jokes about her weight distasteful even if she's the one making a lot of them. This only increased in the film's sequels.
** Kimmy Jin, who is a standoffish (and even racist) bitch to Beca for no real reason.
** Emily became this for many viewers. Though a lot of the hate is because of either feeling she's a SpotlightStealingSquad, or [[spoiler:her decision to suddenly sing her original song in the riff off]].

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: ''3'' features the usual Riff Off between the competing [[=USO=]] groups... and out of nowhere, a group of five soldiers that bust in with a Beyonce track, to the bewilderment and/or amusement of Evermoist, Saddle Up, and the Bellas.

** [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMoments As awesome as it is,]] the riff-off scene in the sequel comes totally out of left field, creating a self-described “world’s greatest a capella fan” who brings together a group for an underground, impromptu competition. All the competitors turn out to have plot-relevance (except the inexplicable addition of the Green Bay Packers), which only adds to the contrivance.

** A large portion of the audience prefer ''Das Sound Machine'''s technical and vocal mastery and far superior production values to the Bellas' fairly anemic final performance in the sequel. The filmmakers themselves seem to be aware of this, which could explain why they include tired [[ThoseWackyNazis evil]] [[GermanicDepressives stereotypes]] in most scenes with these characters in an attempt to [[DesignatedVillain stop us from supporting them]]. [[EnsembleDarkhorse This failed miserably]].

* WhatAnIdiot: In the sequel, this happens to Emily in-universe after she [[spoiler:randomly bursts into her original song during the Riff-Off and gets the Bellas disqualified]]. Apparently many felt this out of universe too.
