YMMV / "Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!"

  • Harsher in Hindsight: The inclusion of Bill Cosby as a member of the Meliorists can feel a bit awkward in hindsight, considering how his reputation would nosedive following accusations of sexual assault against numerous women in 2014.
  • Unintentional Period Piece: During the book's initial publication, the "super rich" liberal members of the Meliorists were well-known figures — especially in the late 2000s and early 2010s. However, many of them have since disappeared from the spotlight, passed away, or become embroiled in controversy (most notably Bill Cosby, as mentioned above).
  • Values Dissonance: The book's themes of "the rebellious rich take on the reigning rich" and notions about wealthy liberals fixing the country would be out of place in the late 2010s and The New '20s, as the population (especially those on the more liberal end of the political spectrum) has become increasingly skeptical of the idea, not helped by several notable supposed "forward thinking" billionaires becoming mired in controversy (e.g. Elon Musk).
