These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.
Alas, Poor Villain: Ushikawa is an unlikable character who works for the Big Bad, but it's hard not to feel pity for him as he thinks of his daughters while being suffocated to death by Tamaru.
The title has been mispronounced as "Q-Teen Eighty Four".
As well as "IQ Eighty Four".
Like You Would Really Do It: Book 2 ends with Aomame sticking a loaded gun in her mouth. Less blatant in the original since the three books were published separately, but played straight in the English release.
Values Dissonance: On gun control. To elaborate, Tamaru getting a handgun for Aomame is a big deal and quite risky and it shows how much they trust each other, because she could get arrested for owning a gun and he for providing it to her. This might seem very odd to American readers, who live in a country that has some of the most lax gun laws in the world while Japan has the very strictest gun laws in the world.
