  • Complete Monster: Bartholomew "Bart" Bartley is a petty murderer responsible for killing most of his family. Desiring to be in a relationship, Bart spends his free time scoping out potential women to become infatuated with, all while secretly tampering with the food he cooks at his fast-food establishment and occasionally murdering innocents whenever it's most convenient for him. Whenever his dates go awry, Bart immediately kills the woman he was dating; one woman was sprayed with acid, while another was burned to death, along with her five children and three other civilians. Bart even goes as far as killing a police officer and violating her corpse simply because he didn't want her to discover he was driving with a suspended license.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The tone frequently flips back and forth between Bart doing casual, mundane activities to him abusing and killing people over petty reasons. He does it so nonchalantly that it comes across as being darkly comical.
  • Nausea Fuel: Bart is a fast-food employee who consistently puts inedible items in the food he makes for customers. Pick any kind of gross bodily fluids/waste that immediately comes to mind and you can bet that Bart put that in the burgers, fries, or shakes he creates.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: Yes, Bart casually killing people is disturbing, but the tone of the book makes it come off as over-the-top Black Comedy. Part of the genuine horror from the book is that Bart is a fast-food employee who routinely poisons the food he cooks with items like bugs, semen, and dead animal flesh without a single person realizing what they're eating. Even worse, he never gets caught. Bart could've easily tampered the food with lethal poison and killed dozens and he would've gotten away with it.
