YMMV / Okko's Inn

Go To

  • Awesome Art: Compared to the TV series, which didn't always have much of a budget at times, the animation in the movie is much sleeker, much more fluid, and the character designs are more polished and refined. The background art is also a sight to behold, from the flowery clearing Uribo magically shows Okko, to Matsuki's ryokan, which is much fancier than the inn design in the show.
  • Tear Jerker: The movie starts with one, with Okko's parents dying in a car accident. The last third of the movie spirals into this territory as well, with Okko meeting the person who unknowingly had a hand in her parents' deaths.
  • What Do You Mean, It's for Kids?: It's a cute anime movie about a girl working at the inn with the help of ghosts that she sees. It also had a separate anime adaptation released around the same time that played before Elena of Avalor. However, the main character constantly has panic attacks about her parents dying, and at the end, a man who stays at her inn that she tried helping make special meals for reveals that he was the one who accidentally killed her parents, causing her to cry in front of the man's son and wife.
