YMMV / No Kidding

  • Designated Villain: Mrs. Spicer is seen as the bad guy purely for wanting a home for underprivileged children and not wanting the children of Chartham Place to run free unsupervised. Sure, she is trying to take Chartham Place away from the Robinsons, but it is safe to say her idea would be a much more deserving use of the ground than as a place for rich brats to stay on holiday for large sums of cash. David's confession that he spent time in an underprivileged children's home as a child and had an awful time does complicate things, however.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Catherine Robinson and Cook are played by Geraldine McEwan and Joan Hickson, who would both later be best known for playing Miss Marple. The latter in Miss Marple (1984) and the former in Marple.
  • Tear Jerker: When Angus wants to feed a frog he claims was left by his mummy and daddy, he and Catherine can't find it. Angus then sobs, believing his mummy came back, wishing his own mummy would come back. Catherine wipes away a tear, much like the audience would be doing too.
  • Values Dissonance:
    • The film follows a very 1960s-centric view on corporal punishment - Tandy hopes to give the Treadgolds a "kick up the khyber", Mr. Rockbottom gives David full permission to hit Lionel and threatens to brain him if he doesn't enjoy himself, Vanilla lies that her aunt gives her thrashings, and David threatens to wallop the children after they steal his car.
    • Catherine is a firm believer that the only figure of authority in any family has to be the male.
