  • Aluminum Christmas Trees: Some readers didn't know that the Lambada revival of 1990 was a real thing.
  • Anvilicious: Barboza has admitted that he purposely makes his strips as blunt as possible because he frequently has to put up with people who constantly misinterpret the messages in his comic, as well as to broadside real-world trends or events that genuinely frustrate him.
  • Archive Panic: The original comic spewed over a thousand strips in a span of just three years. And none of them are standalone. Good luck.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Tabitha only had one major appearance in the whole comic, followed by a very brief cameo much later on, yet she's pretty popular with readers for being a Perky Goth and an overall nice person.
    • Marion is popular due to being so nice and kind-hearted, if a little ditzy.
    • Denise is well-liked by a number of readers as a result of her quirky personality and generally being a nice person.
    • Vicky immediately became popular with readers thanks to having a nice developed relationship with her niece Jocelyn, the obvious Sibling Yin-Yang between her and Phyllis and the fact that she's unwilling to put up with Ronald's bullcrap.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Katy babysits a young Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers fan in one strip. Said strip was posted less than a day before Robert Axelrod, who voiced Power Rangers antagonist Lord Zedd, passed away.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Joel definitively qualifies. As much as a smartassed youth with no respect for many people he tends to be, deep down Joel's an insecure guy who gets constantly put down, discouraged, punished and basically told to stop doing the things that he loves because no one understands him.
  • Misaimed Fandom: The comic was created with a nostalgic and rebellious tone to it that flies over the heads of most readers.
