YMMV / Night of the Demon (1980)

Go To

  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Several of the kills, such as the sleeping bag fatality, resemble infamous kills from the more iconic slasher films that came out years later such as Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood.
  • Nausea Fuel: Much of the gorn but here's some notable examples:
    • The biker getting his penis ripped out by Bigfoot.
    • The whole rape scene and the subsequent birth of Bigfoot's child, including the child itself.
    • Nugent getting his entire face burned off on a hot stovetop.
  • Retroactive Recognition: The film's score is an early effort by Dennis McCarthy, whom sci-fi fans will recognize for his work on such genre efforts as V and various Star Trek projects. Needless to say, his later works are a massive step up from the high-pitched synth tones heard in this film.
  • Signature Scene: The castration of the biker and the disembowelment of one of the students, with the entrails subsequently used as a flail.
  • So Bad, It's Good: Between the downright diabolical acting, unconvincing visual effects, whiny synth soundtrack, and utterly insane gore scenes, the film is undeniably hilarious. Helps that the bigfoot costume does genuinely look pretty good, especially for the time.
