• Growing the Beard: It's the second earliest episode of the series to appear in the fan-selected twenty that were added to Netflix in March of 2017.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • "You know what the difference between this and the Titanic is? The Titanic had talent." A few years and a few Oscars later...
    • Even better: Kevin Murphy would later help mock that film with two other MST3K alumni on RiffTrax.
    • By the way, in case you were wondering, Joel may have been referring to the 1953 version of Titanic, making the foreshadow coincidental.
  • An early joke in the film where Charlie dumbly keeps saying "Girls..." to Don (Tommy Kirk) while trying to tell him about Catalina is interrupted by Joel slyly slipping in "Guys." A few years after the episode aired, Tommy Kirk came out in an interview for Filmfax magazine, though his homosexuality had always been something of an open secret in Hollywood even before that.
  • This exchange:
    Charlie: "Come on, tiger, we'd better split to dry land."
    Servo: "[as Don] Don't call me that here, bunny, please!"
• Values Dissonance: Tom calling Creepy Girl a "swarthy gypsy type" is pretty cringe-inducing now.
