• Fanfic Fuel: What will happen when Gabby returns to Griffonstone and inevitably meets Gilda again? And how will Gilda react to a griffin who is basically a griffin Pinkie Pie?
• Fanon: The cutie marks of Petunia's parents are a pair of crossed rapiers and an oyster with a pearl in it. A fan theory holds that they're former pirates themselves who don't want her going down the same path, but are prepared to help her be the best pirate she can be.
• Fridge Brilliance: Officially, the episode was delayed half a season in order to ensure there would be a CMC episode in the later part of the season. However, given that in "On Your Marks" (produced five episodes before this one), the CMC were struggling to find ponies to help, whereas here, they're so widely renowned for helping with cutie mark problems that ponies (and griffons) actually seek them out, it definitely made sense to separate the two episodes a bit more.
• Genius Bonus: The equation that Gabby writes on Cheerilee's chalkboard for the sine function is technically correct, if a simplified derivative of f(t) = sin(t). When teaching pre-calculus, teachers start with the formal formula and show how they arrive a derivative like sin(x) = y,
• Moe: By griffon standards, Gabby is this due to her cute and soft plush-like character design, overflowing enthusiasm, and eagerness to find her purpose in life.
