YMMV / My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S6 E1 "The Crystalling – Part 1"

Go To

  • Accidental Aesop: Raising babies is hard and will cause a lot of problems for the parents, especially if it's their first born, and infants will naively destroy things you care about by accident if you don't take proper care of them.
  • Broken Base: One little line invoked a large amount of this. Celestia makes a casual remark that no alicorn has been born in Equestria. This lead to debates on whether Celestia and Luna are naturally-born alicorns or not. While some fans have long since enjoyed the concept, fanon is that the sisters were born as alicorns and that explains their physical god-esque attributes, compared to an "ascended alicorn" like Twilight. The licensed book The Journal of the Two Sisters implies they were born as alicorns, which only adds to the issue. Fan debates on whether the sisters don't count because they technically weren't born in Equestria (the book's author has gone with that, and Generation 5 says they grew up in a place called Skyros), or that they don't (obviously) remember their own births, have risen as a result of the issue as well.
  • Fanfic Fuel:
    • Twilight mentions other possible friendship lessons for Starlight, including trying to befriend a griffon, or tagging along with the Cutie Mark Crusaders.
    • The rule of becoming an Alicorn ("accomplishing some Princess-worthy deed") is discussed in-universe and the episode implies Celestia and Luna weren't born alicorn. Cue even more fanfics of anypony becoming an alicorn. The episode also helped boost the idea of Celestia and Luna having ascended. Fans have made more than a few fanworks about what type(s) of ponies they were originally and what they did to ascend.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The shattering of the Crystal Heart was a major plot point in A Different Perspective which was 1.5 years before the Season 6 premiere.
  • Narm: The sheer suddenness of the Crystal Heart shattering, as well as how it just sort of falls apart into little shards can trigger laughter in those not horrified. You almost expect a sad trombone to play after it. The close up on Flurry Heart and the goofy slapstick theme that plays during the credits afterwards certainly doesn't help.
