* CommitmentAnxiety: Including the tutorials, there are over eighty episodes all told with new ones published semi-frequently. The earlier episodes of "High School Life" don't take that long to play through, but later episodes of HSL and the entirety of the other seasons can take up to an hour to finish. For each episode. And you can't just skip episodes, you have to play through each one before you can finish a season. (Thankfully, you don't have to complete one season in order to play the others.) That's not even getting into cost, in more ways than one: earlier episodes of HSL aren't that bad, but the other episodes can take about 2,000 AP to complete. This means that if you pay to play, your bank account will be taking a huge hit and if you want to play for free the shear amount of ''waiting'' you need to do in order to collect enough to finish even five episodes can take as much as six months (or more, depending on how lucky you get with the mini-games).
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: Illustrations can be incredibly hard to unlock and the cost of failing to unlock them is expensive. As such, fans tend to only pick the answers that will lead towards their desired illustration.

** During HSL, Amber was hated by most of the fanbase for being a generic alpha bitch with little to no depth. "University Life" would reintroduce her as a surprisingly mature young adult who has a heart-to-heart with Candy about how she treated her in high school. Amber's focus now seems to be to right past wrongs, get Nathaniel on the right track, and do a modeling career without hurting anyone. These bits of characterization did a lot to get her into most fans' good graces, to the point where some were asking if she could be a love interest too.
** Yeleen was despised in the beginning for being "High School Amber 2.0". Her pettiness and the fact that nearly everything Candy can say leads to a decrease in her affinity made plenty of fans apathetic at best towards her or hateful at worst. However, "Secrets and Confessions" would reveal that [[spoiler: her mother was the one who would keep breaking promises to Yeleen as well as be [[AbusiveParents extremely critical of her and her dreams]]]]. This explanation for Yeleen's behavior, in addition to her and Candy having a meaningful conversation about what's been bothering her this whole time, made most fans sympathetic towards Yeleen.
** In "University Life", Rosalya's character became extremely pushy and judgmental, and her issues with Nathaniel really rubbed a lot of players the wrong way (especially those who were on Nathaniel's route). Starting with "Under Pressure", these negative traits were lessened significantly, and the heartbreaking events of "First Date" garnered her a lot of sympathy.

* ScrappyMechanic: Since the game's inception, the action point system has been hated by pretty much every fan. The way it worked originally was you'd lose two points each time you moved from one location to the next. On average you got 12AP per day, so if you wanted to play through an episode in one go for free, you'd have to wait at least one or two months, perhaps even longer. Characters appeared randomly and some objectives are deliberately designed to eat up your AP. When UL was introduced, the mechanic was changed to detract two points each time you clicked on the dialogue. This made playing through an episode even ''more'' expensive, and it's universal to each season. While the amount of AP you get per day was bumped up to 20, this doesn't change the fact that you'll still be waiting a long time before you have enough AP to get through an entire episode.
* SeasonalRot: Many fans dislike or outright hate "University Life" for a multitude of reasons: the removal of three romance options, higher cost to play an episode, inconsistent characterization of returning characters, an unsatisfying explanation for Candy breaking up with her previous love interest, a different base for Candy (which means you can't have her wear any of her high school clothes), and many other critiques. There are fans who even treat UL as more of an official alternative universe fic than a genuine continuation.

While Alternate Life might've mollified some fans, I haven't seen any evidence of it mending the rift among the fanbase.

** "University Life" and its implementation split the already fractured fanbase even further. Of the modifications, the most contentious was the removal of Kentin, Lysander, and Armin as love interests. Players who were on one or more of their routes were distraught to see their love interest being replaced. Other fans pointed out that this allowed space for other interesting dates, including a GayOption. This was finally bandaged with the creation of Alternate Life which had four (now five!) exciting episodes of if Candy had a chance to continue relationships with those three in UL.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** For a long time, Candy's skin color couldn't be customized; she was white and that was that. Despite many fans requesting more options, Beemoov was mostly silent on the issue, usually opting to let the fanbase argue amongst themselves. Most of these criticisms were laid to rest when the fourth anniversary celebration included twelve different skin tones. "University Life" and "Love Life" include five skin tones off the bat and which one you picked for your Candy would be reflected in illustrations, something that was never implemented in the first season.
** Many of the changes introduced in "University Life" rankled the fanbase, leading to a lot of criticisms against both that season and Beemoov. In an attempt to address these criticisms, the team released a Q&A on the forums, but this did little to satisfy the more dissatisfied part of the fanbase. It wasn't until certain actions were taken that the rage really died down. This included a regular release schedule, the addition of spin off episodes and later on Alternate Life for the removed love interests, and the removal of the action point cap.
