YMMV / Muv-Luv Extra

Go To

YMMV Tropes:

  • Arc Fatigue: The Lacrosse Arc. It's widely considered by far the worst part of the Muv-Luv Trilogy due to how long it drags, to the point where veterans would tell newcomers to Muv-Luv to hang in there as the plot only gets better from there.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Takeru's "Miki Boomerang" daydream.
    • The Initial D Sequence where Yuuko and Takeru race against Ichimonji.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The goofy antics and relatively carefree atmosphere of Extra, while seeming somewhat generic and perhaps boring compared to some other games of the genre, suddenly become something you miss and long for once you reach the dark, oppressive world of Unlimited and Alternative. It drives home how a world with "normal" conflict and low stakes, something you'd normally deride in a story, become something you want to return to once faced with just the sort of "interesting times" you are plunged into. Indeed, at one point in Alternative, Takeru asks Yuuko to send him back to the world of Extra because it's just too much for him to deal with. But...well, the situation becomes even more horrific when his troubles from Alternative follow him into the world of Extra, raising the stakes dramatically—now he has to find out how to save both worlds.
  • So Okay, It's Average: How some of the fandom feels about Extra seeing as it's not nearly as notable as Unlimited and especially Alternative. Plenty of people enjoy Extra just fine though, and it can be even more enjoyable to play after beating the later games and seeing some of the foreshadowing that was set up in this game.
