- Unintentionally Sympathetic: The boy who gets petrified by Medusa becomes this when his sister gets involved; sure he was shown to be bratty and loud but the fact he has a family member who wants to get him back to normal makes the ordeal quite saddening for both of them. There's also just the general fact that rendering a child permanently petrified (and at least initially conscious) is a pretty horrifically overkill punishment for being a loud brat in public.
- Unpopular Popular Character: Mimic in the comic is an oblivious troublemaker whose unique biology makes her a pain in the neck for other characters, but the readers love her.
- Values Dissonance: The "Oni's Love Rules" spin-off falls into this, because of its Teacher/Student Romance subplot, with the creative team having to release a statement pointing out they were not aware it would cause such a backlash with western audiences since all they were trying to convey was what is, in their eyes, a cute slice-of-life story revolving a high school senior girl and her crush on her teacher.
