YMMV / Mind Game

Go To

  • Cult Classic: Even beyond anime circles, this film earned Masaaki Yuasa a name. Noted fans are Satoshi Kon and Bill Plympton. The film and its author have been discussed in animation classes.
  • Quirky Work: Mind Game's, and by that extension Yuasa's, humor and artistic style confused western audiences, especially the Disney Acid Sequences in the belly of the whale..
  • The Woobie: While any of the 3 main characters could count, a special mention goes to Myon's/Yan's mother, who essentially was left unconscious in a bar, swoon away by a womanizer (whom she married and had her children with) who would eventually cheat on her, and then eventually get threatened by yakuza because of the womanizer cheating on her with Atsu's girlfriend.
