YMMV / Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: The lack of details on what Black Hole looks and acts like has given rise to a few fan interpretations of the character.
  • Awesome Music:
    • Meet Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls is a fun electronic beat that walks you through five of the girls.
    • Chibis in Space is also a catchy beat in a more funky kind of way.
    • Fans have constructed their own theme songs for each Galaxy Girl, including unofficial "Zodiac" characters as well.
  • Broken Base: The 2021 redesigns. Some viewers enjoyed the diverse takes and new styles for each of the characters. Others did not, stating the body types did not seem right or that the characters were simplified, as some original attributes were removed.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Even though Eris, Ceres, and Andromeda haven't had a lot of prominence at the time, many viewers then and now enjoy these characters as much as the main 11 girlaxy. Artists have also came up with a symbol for Ceres.
  • Fan Sequel: The unproduced animated series has lead to many fan adaptions of the characters, but the biggest shoutout goes to Unofficial Milky Way.
  • Fridge Horror: Black holes are the remains of super-massive stars that used up all their fuel and collapsed in on themselves. The Sun is a star. That means Black Hole may have been a Sun once herself, and a good person.
  • Friendly Fandoms: With My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic due to them being so similar and both being created by Lauren Faust.
  • Genius Bonus: In real life, Saturn is the only planet in the solar system that actually puts out a sound. So Saturn being a DJ makes sense.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A study in January 2024 reveals that Neptune is actually a light greenish blue rather than a deep blue commonly depicted in medias. And Neptune the Galaxy Girl's color palette is a greenish blue instead of blue.
  • Moe: All of the girls have different attributes that make them adorable and likeable to many.
  • Recurring Fan Character: In 2016, a set of characters known as the "Zodiac Gang" were released by a designer named Wretneck. The characters are known for being popular in Galaxy Girls fanworks and animations, starting with Unofficial Milky Way's fanmade Galaxy Girls series.
  • Rule 50: Bronies, loving all things Lauren Faust, have made a few My Little Pony/Galaxy Girls crossovers. You can see a few in Lauren's Galaxy Girls fanart favorites section of her DeviantArt page.
  • Rule 63: The cast being entirely female has left opportunities for artists to draw them as boys, naming it "Milky Way and the Galaxy Boys".
  • The Woobie: Some may feel sorry for The Moon due to her dramatic mood-swinging personality which can sometimes make her look like a Shrinking Violet.
