YMMV / Lizzo

Go To

  • Awesome Ego: Part of her charm. In Lizzo's world, she's the hottest, baddest bitch in the room, and your man's always after her ("Somebody come get this maaaaan, I think he got lost in my DMs!"). Legions of (largely female) fans are feeling her just as much as she's feeling herself, mostly because she extends that self-love to her fans.
  • Awesome Music:
    • More or less all of Cuz I Love You, which made her second only to Lil Nas X as the breakout star of 2019. Special mention goes to the neo-funk Badass Boast "Juice," the very boisterous neo-soul Title Track, and the relentless booty-shaking beat of "Tempo" (featuring Missy Elliott giving some weirdly satisfying Trrrilling Rrrs). Of course, we'd be remiss in forgetting slow jam "Truth Hurts" from the deluxe edition, which is her first top 10 hit and a perfect song to put on when you're just done with inconsiderate men.
    • The Coconut Oil EP has the fan favorite "Good As Hell," which channels the spirit of 1970s AM pop (Lizzo-style, of course), and is also a perfect song to put on when you're done with inconsiderate men.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: A leading voice of body positivity, Lizzo found herself in big trouble when several backup dancers levied allegations that Lizzo subjected them to, among other things, regular body shaming for their weight.
  • LGBT Fanbase: Queer fans love Lizzo and she loves them right back, loudly and proudly.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Playing the second verse of "Boys" over a montage of various men, fictional characters, or animals that match the description of the boys listed.
"I. Like. Big boys, itty bitty boys..."
      • Similarly, rewriting it and doing the same thing for girls.
    • Illustrated mondegreens for "you coulda had a bad bitch, noncommittal" (a line from "Truth Hurts"), such as "you coulda had a bad bitch, Malcolm middle" or "...Sour Skittles" - Lizzo herself has shared these on social media.
    • "I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that bitch." Or occasionally replaced "that bitch" with another attribute, occasionally self-deprecating.
  • She Really Can Act: She hosted (and was the musical guest) on an episode of Saturday Night Live and promptly became the umpteenth musician to also be a talented comedic actor.
  • Signature Song: Tie between "Good As Hell" and "Truth Hurts," both of which became big-time sleeper hits. To a lesser extent, "Juice" and "About Damn Time".
