YMMV / Little House On The Prairie S 9 E 1 Times Are Changing

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: After Jenny is saved from drowning, Laura is the one who talks her out of her suicidal state, but Almanzo is never shown approaching his niece. Did he happen to be busy at that point, or was he still reluctant about talking to his niece about her grief due to being in mourning for his brother as well?
  • Values Dissonance: Laura's reaction to Jenny's suicide attempt is to scold the girl for trying to end her own life, calling her atittude selfish and reminding her that the boy who saved almost drowned himself. While there might be a bit of Deliberate Values Dissonance in that, this is a completely inappropiate way to address a suicidal person who happens to be a child and barely understands what she was doing.
