• Epileptic Trees: Given how close the events were to Grace Ingalls' birth, some theorized that the Ingalls named their youngest daughter after the baby girl from here, or that at least the events contributed for them to name them with the same name.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Charles trolls Mrs. Oleson into thinking the baby they found is Laura's. The next time Mrs. Oleson believes an Ingalls kid had a child out of wedlock will be in Sylvia, with tragic consequences.
• Iron Woobie: Anna Mears lives with religious zealot father who keeps her secluded in the middle of nowhere, gets pregnant and spends months keeping it a secret fearing what her father would do, gives birth all by herself and has to abandon her child in the middle of the forest, risking the baby's safety. After her baby is taken in, her father figures out about her, and tries to burn her and himself alive to keep her "sin" a secret and after escaping, she still manages to find strength to save him from the fire before being rescued by her boyfriend and reuniting with him and their daughter.
• Padding: It is anyone's guess why this needed to be a special 90-minute episode, since it seems mostly to consist of characters having the same conversations multiple times, scenery-porn-laden journeys and return journeys to the same locations (by both characters and messages-in-bottles, separately and together), and random scenes with no bearing on the plot (such as Caroline and Mary making a shopping list of groceries we never see them buy or use, or a full minute of Laura milking a cow).
