• Captain Obvious Reveal: It's hard not to guess from the beginning that Walter Stuck secretly carries the mind of Adam Grosling in his brain, considering that his own introduction makes it look like he had changed his identity in some mysterious way, and that Grosling is explained early to have worked with Hart in a revolutionary method to record the human mind before being paralyzed in an accident.
• Narm:
  • Lars Murliken is mentioned to have performed experiments about the origin of life... which had the result of creating life in his own laboratory. Yet, bizarrely, nobody in the entire book seems to find this even a bit interesting, not even the Gothic Club, whose members should have been completely shaken by such an existential blasphemy.
  • Stuck doesn't make for a very impressive surname, especially for a villain.
