YMMV / Kitchen Nightmares S5 E1 "Blackberry's"

• Awesome Moments:
  • Basically any time Mary opens her mouth.
    • First, she tells her daughter to shut up, ditch her arrogance, and accept the help that Gordon is offering.
    • The second instance is when she confronts Shelly for walking out of the dinner service, telling her that if she is going to behave like that, she should just close the restaurant down.
    • Not to mention her red velvet cake was the only food Ramsay liked during his sample meal.
  • When James accuses Gordon of planting the dead rat by the door and the latter sees that Shelly believes James' lie, Gordon doesn't attempt to negotiate or backpedal; he immediately declares that if they're going to lie and pin it on him, that's it; he'll walk out and leave them to save the restaurant themselves.
  • Shelly walks off the line in the middle of the relaunch after being called out for interfering with the other chefs and reverting to her old ways, which included meddling in dishes that others were cooking. Mateen, with some encouragement from Gordon, steps up and gets every dish served properly once she leaves.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Mama Mary has quite a lot of fans and sympathizers due to funding the restaurant out of her retirement fund, calling her daughter out for rejecting Ramsay's help and walking out during their dinner service, and being grateful to Ramsay (in contrast to her daughter). Being able to make food that Ramsay likes doesn't hurt much either.
• Memetic Mutation: "Finally, some good fucking food."^Explanation Gordon's response to Mary's red velvet cake, the only thing he actually liked in Blackberry's.
• Nausea Fuel: Ramsay is served chitlins for lunch, and its presentation and smell are so disgusting that Gordon asks his servers to pray for him before he eats it. For the most part, it's all Played for Laughs.... until Ramsay takes his first bite. He rushes to the bathroom immediately after spitting it out. Cue Shelly laughing uproariously over his plight.
• The Woobie: Mama Mary is a sweet old woman and excellent baker who put everything she had into her daughter's restaurant, only for her daughter to refuse change, disrespecting both her and Gordon when he tries and fails to help.
