- Genius Bonus: Some of the Shout Outs and Continuity Nods in the Fan Remake are really, really obscure.
- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: The Fan Remake does this for the original.
- Take That, Scrappy!: In the final test for the Air Gem, you are brought to King Graham's future holding a ceremony for Connor, the main protagonist of the much contested King's Quest: Mask of Eternity. For those who could not stand him, they can refuse to knight him and send him home in disgrace. Noticeably, the game itself won't punish you for this and still give you the same exact amount of points. Though for those who actually did like Connor, they still have the option of knighting him and making him next in line for Daventry's throne. If you passed the first two questions with flying colors, you can also decide to give Connor a test, which is slaying a terrible beast... The even more maligned Cedric the Owl, who invites himself to Connor's ceremony, causing the elderly King Graham to draw his blade and chase the damned owl himself.
- Tear Jerker: The second test for the Air Gem shows Graham a glimpse of the future: namely the timeframe of King's Quest III, with a dragon terrorising a ruined Daventry, Alexander missing since infancy, and Rosella chosen as a Human Sacrifice for the dragon. Suddenly, the Father shows himself to the distressed King Graham, offering him a Sadistic Choice to save his only remaining child's life. While this scene is heart-wrenching enough, it becomes worse when you think about it being presented to a young, optimistic Graham: he's just at the cusp of marrying and starting a family, and now he has to live with the knowledge of the disasters that will befall his children and his kingdom, without the comfort of knowing that it will eventually turn out all right.
