YMMV / I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Was Laika serious when she threatened to go on a rampage if Azusa denied her challenge or was she just bluffing? Considering her overall demeanor during the rest of the story, unless of course her defeat was a far bigger Humble Pie than expected, she doesn't seem the type of individual that would do such thing.
    • Pecora is subject to this a lot since she seems so sweet but hides a pretty devious mind and is always scheming something. Some will think her almost pure evil when she does things like cause Azusa to unknowingly enslave Flatorte, but it is quite plausible that Pecora did this knowing full well that Azusa would never take advantage of Flatorte and that she would treat Flatorte with the same level of kindness and care that she shows towards everyone else, while ensuring the dragon tribes really did follow the peace treaty.
    • Another one for Pecora is how much of the incident with Halkara and the later fight she had with Azusa was real and how much was staged just so she could test to see if Azusa would make a good Cool Big Sis. Halkara is canonically the weakest member of the household, not much stronger than an average human, while Pecora is at least close to Azusa's level so it seems unlikely a headbutt, even one she wasn't expecting would do anything, let alone would leave her unconscious for hours. Indeed, later we see Pecora headbutt Azusa, with only Azusa feeling any pain. Then again, Halkara is so unlucky that it's possible she just hit the right spot to genuinely render Pecora unconscious for a short time, since even in real life it's possible to knock someone out (admittedly for only a few seconds) with very little force, and Pecora just took advantage of the situation.
  • Angst? What Angst?: While she might have come to peace with it after 300 years, Azusa treated dying with more disappointment than shock. She jumps at the chance to be reborn so that she can live a slow life, yet not at all bothered that everyone she knew and loved in her old life know nothing of this and she will never see them again.
  • Anvilicious: The entire story revolves around a condemnation of Japanese overwork culture. The protagonist died in the prime of her life working as a Salarywoman, and the central goal of her new life is to live as easy and carefree as possible. Almost every one of her True Companions are someone who has worked way too hard or simply endured suffering under the justification of It Can't Be Helped. Each and every time, Azusa rejects this mindset and teaches the person to take it easy.
  • Ass Pull: The resolution to the Kangaroo Court Azusa and co. are subjected to in light novel volume 2 is them pulling on all manner of valuable connections and resources, some of which have only been mentioned in passing like Shalsha's numerous academic acquaintances in high positions, or are jarringly introduced now that it's useful to them. It also qualifies as a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment since the incident is never mentioned or referred to again, the manga and anime adaptions don't include it in the first place, and unlike other events that are built upon later, none of the people referred to in this chapter, including Governor Golder, are ever heard from again.
  • Awesome Music: There are several contenders for episode 10, but special credit goes to Kuku's song "Thank You" about Kuku expressing her gratitude towards Azusa and her family for all their help with song-writing. A very heartfelt song that ends up making several of the characters tear up.
  • Les Yay: Full of it. Many of Azusa's interactions with Laika and Halkara, and how they're drawn in the illustrations and manga could be easily seen as romantic, especially with how devoted the former is to Azusa, and the latter's touchy-feely tendencies when drunk (which is often). This also applies to Beelzebub's spinoff; Pecora's can be interpreted as having a crush on Beelzebub.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • From the moment the anime adaptation was first announced, numerous people have been making crossover jokes involving other slime-related isekai like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime or By the Grace of the Gods, such as Azusa being Rimuru's greatest and most feared enemy, or Ryouma seeing her as an utter monster.
    • From the premise alone, it's been considered the Japanese equivalent of the South Park episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft" where someone spends an ungodly time killing low-level monsters to get to max level.
    • "Darkness wants to know your location."note
  • Moe:
    • Falfa and Shalsha wear near-identical outfits and hairdos, and are huggable even though they are actually older than they looked. Hence why Beelzebub constantly fawns over them.
    • Azura herself becomes adorable when she is accidentally shrank down to the size of a child by Halkara.
    • Halkara is adorable whenever she absent-mindedly messes up.
