YMMV / It's Just a Light Rain (But the Storm's Still Comin')

  • Angst Aversion: Though the story has been praised for the wonderful story-line and characterizations that explores on the thieves flaws, along with a look to how a Joker-less Phantom Thieves would fare with the canonical events, there are a handful of readers who felt that the story's tone was too bleak to the point of depressing due to the Downer Beginning that starts the Butterfly of Doom in this story and how things got progressively worse with little signs of improvement for the first 16 chapters of the story, even with the story's tags of "Angst with a Happy Ending" that promises an eventual happy ending. The Shujin thieves constant antagonism of Akira in this story due to their Adaptational Jerkass treatment also didn't win them favors until their Heel Realization hits.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The first chapter ends with Akira dreaming of Igor claiming that his rehabilitation is now impossible to come true setting the tone of what is to come for the rest of the story. And true to his word, Akira's social life in Shujin has become utter hell.
  • Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: Overlaps with Angst Aversion. Akira's life becoming a Trauma Conga Line and the Phantom Thieves (Who receive the lion's share of the story's focus) being unsympathetic assholes who actively antagonize him over the misunderstanding of his conversation with Shiho to the point that Akira's cognition of Ann wants to kill him and consistently just make things worse may wind up putting readers off, especially as it takes until Chapter 16 for the majority of the Phantom Thieves to reconsider their actions and how they treat Akira.
  • The Woobie: Akira. In addition to his canonical torments of being falsely accused of assault and having his criminal record leaked at Shujin (with this story making it clear that Kamoshida ruined his second chance before Akira even set foot in the school for no reason beyond his own ego and sheer cruelty), the fact that he Missed the Call drives a permanent wedge between him and the people who should have been his True Companions, he can't even do legitimate work at a flower shop without running afoul of someone who can and will ruin his life for the pettiest of slights, and the Phantom Thieves' jaunts into his Palace make it clear that he's still a victim of supernatural powers beyond his comprehension.
