|These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.|
YMMV: In The Valley Of Elah
- Award Snub: no nominations for Charlize Theron or Susan Sarandon.
- Tearjerker: almost too many moments to count, but notably when Hank and his wife see their son's body and the frightened wife who is murdered by her husband.
- Retroactive Recognition: Mark Boal, who gets story credit (and who also wrote the article upon which the screenplay was based) would later become an acclaimed screenwriter in his own right, writing The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.
