• Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Hope just a nice person trying to help her sister, or a shameless doormat who ignores all the bad things Faith does out of an old fashioned attitude about family, despite Faith being a bad influence to her kids?
• Broken Base: Faith, you either find her funny or you find her irritating, there seems to be no middle ground.
• Designated Villain: Charlie. The show presents him as a thorn in Faith's side out to sabotage all her fun yet he wants her to find her own place because she's a bad influence on their children.
• Ensemble Dark Horse: Charlie, Hayley and (to an extent) Sydney are the preferred characters by the fandom.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Sydney Squeeing over Brian Austen Green appearing in a family photo, considering Megan Fox would marry him in real life.
• Retroactive Recognition:
  • Megan Fox playing Sydney from seasons 2 & 3, a couple of years before hitting it big with Transformers (2007).
  • Brie Larson in the pilot, before she went on to Oscar cred with Room.
• Tear Jerker: A flashback episode to Thanksgiving while Hope was pregnant with Sydney. It reveals that their mother was terminally ill, and Faith had never known - because she died in an accident not long after. The Stinger ends with Hope giving Faith a Comforting Comforter as an apparition of their mother looks on.
• They Copied It, So It Sucks!: The children were accused of being rip-offs of 8 Simple Rules with promiscuous eldest daughter (Bridget, Sydney), brainy middle daughter (Kerry, Hayley) and quirky youngest son (Rory, Justin).
