YMMV / Heisei Ultraseven

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Alien Garut ("Metal Alien") from Ultraseven Evolution is the overarching villain of the final Heisei Ultraseven OV Series. Coming in contact with the Akashic Records, a stone that prophecies the evolutionary path of Earth, Garut decided to tamper with it—considered one of the greatest universal crimes—to doom humanity to extinction and give rise to a plant-based species who he would manipulate to become their ruler. To make sure his false prophecy comes to pass, Garut manipulates the Alien Pegassa, Alien Godola, and human psychic children. Garut uses the former two to Kill and Replace most of the TDF and the latter to brainwash most of the population on Earth. Garut's allies assumed that they would be able to rule over the Earth in return, but in fact were nothing more than disposable pawns to be thrown away. When the Ultra Garrison and Ultraseven get close to the Akashic Records, Garut summons his monster pet, Gaimos, to kill everyone in the vicinity.
  • Evil Is Cool: The robots Daitekkai and King Joe II, as well as Alien Garut are well liked by the audiences due to their modern design.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • TDF's attempt to repurpose King Joe which backfired on them when the robot was hacked by the Rajakahm Stone would be repeated in Ultraman Z as the case of Ultroid Zero, which gets mutated into the Final Boss Destrudos that the heroes had to fight in order to save Earth from destruction.
    • Satomi calls out to Shima in Betrayal Sun from the 1998 trilogy that his malice will soon come back to bite him in the ass when the Monster of the Week offers mankind a chance to get rid of their Minus Energy. In Ultraseven Evolution Pentalogy, Shima's negative energy inadvertently drive Neo Pandon to a rampaging spree when the Plant Life Form was able to defuse the situation. To twist the knife further, not only Shima killed said Plant Life Form out of unfounded paranoia, Satomi died an episode earlier before she could bear witness as to how she was right in her rant from four years prior.
    • Also crossed with Fridge Brilliance: Furuhashi being one of the many TDF officers to oppose Kaji's Operation Friendship takes a lot deeper meaning as it can be backtrack to episode 26 of original Ultraseven, wherein everyone except Dan are supporting the R-1 interstellar missile which results with the native monster of Planet Gyeron coming to Earth to exact its revenge. To Furuhashi (as by this point he had learned that Dan is Seven), he is seeing the mistakes he and his old UG teammates being repeated by Kaji and his men.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Episode 5 of the 1999 Hexalogy has King Joe being attempted to be repurposed for TDF's use in their fight against alien invaders, only to go out of control when the Rajakahm Stone hacked into the robot. It took 21 years in real life that in Ultraman Z, the audience finally got a heroic King Joe that fights alongside the Badass Crew.
    • Episode 6 of the 1999 Hexalogy has the story's antagonist try to aim for the artifact in the Earth military that can change the status quo of a race while the protagonist try to protect it from being destroyed. This is Ultraseven 1999's final episode "I am an Earthling", as well as Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn's final OVA. Now if only the ending is the same.
  • Padding: 1999 Hexalogy has six episodes but in terms of plot importance only the first and last episodes really matter with the episodes in between being disconnected from the main overarching plot line of operation friendship.
  • Jerks Are Worse Than Villains: Contrary to the appearing alien villains in 1999 Hexalogy, Kaji himself took the massive brunt of hate from fans as despite the show trying to portray himself as an anti hero at best, his warhawk personality means that he either starts or escalates the conflict between TDG and the opposing Monster of the Week even further.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Whereas several of the appearing aliens are accounted for their vile actions, TDF staff officer Kaji takes the cake by launching Operation: Friendship to bombard any planets that potentially threatened the Earth, as well as killing those who knew the existence of Omega Files (some of the victims include the old Captain Kiriyama of the first Ultra Garrison).
