YMMV / Guilty Gear Xrd

Go To

  • Fan Nickname: "Juggalo Pope" for Ariels, particularly once she puts on skull Monster Clown makeup.
  • Good Bad Bugs: Raven's needle projectile creates a temporary slowdown effect on any opponent he hits with it, however at one point it was bugged so that with the right setup it would keep the slowdown for the remainder of the round. For obvious reasons, this was quickly fixed.
  • Older Than They Think:
    • Potemkin's new military-styled look isn't completely new: His Arcade Mode ending in Accent Core shows him bodyguarding Gabriel in a fancy military dress uniform which looks very similar to his new look, although he still wore no helmet.
    • This actually isn't the first game where characters have unique reactions to Faust's Shigekiteki Zetsumeiken. They were also present in Guilty Gear XX, although they weren't quite as over-the-top.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who likes Danger Time as a mechanic. At random instances when players clash, the screen announces that Danger Time is starting, and for a brief period in time all combo starting hits during the period are Fatal Counters, allowing for devastating combos. Not only is this completely random and essentially a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment if nothing happens, it interrupts the gameplay significantly and if anyone gets hit during this time window, it can mean death in cases where it wouldn't have happened.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • The original announcement, at first appearing to be a 2D fighter only to rotate the camera around what turn out to be 3D models.
    • Ky Kiske gets shot in the back and seemingly drops to his death...only to rise to his feet with the reveal that he's had gear cells in his body for some time now.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Both Gabriel and Ariels have highly detailed and elaborate fight scenes in the story mode, but neither of them are playable characters. This is particular egregious with the latter, who is the main antagonist of the game's plot.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: This was the first game to utilize Arc System Works' now famous "faux 2D" visual style and engine, which would go on to be used in not only its direct sequel but also Dragon Ball Fighter Z, Granblue Fantasy Versus, and DNF Duel.
