YMMV / Grandpa in My Pocket

Go To

  • Ass Pull: While many of Grandpa's shrinking cap abilities can become unexpected to the viewers, the part when he makes a cake come alive in "Captain Dumbletwit's Spaceship Cake" just feels like it came out of the blue.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The part where Grandpa falls off a roof in "The Wonderful World of Mr Whoops".
  • Fridge Horror: As pointed out by Diamondbolt, Grandpa's ability to bring toy vehicles to life could have some potentially dangerous applications.
"Holy crap, dude, Grandpa legit could bring down an entire nation if he wanted to with abilities like that! That fighter jet model is really gonna come in handy...wait don't let him near the model kits!"
  • Jerkass Woobie: Great Aunt Loretta might not be the nicest nor the sweetest person ever, far from it, but she suffers the most physical injuries in the show either due to general clumsiness or because of certain chain of shenanigans caused by Grandpa, it makes you wonder if it's really all deserved. And unlike Grandpa, who can go through dangerous situations and still come out unscathed due to his shrinking cap making him more physically active, Loretta shows immense pain when she gets injured.
  • Narm/Narm Charm: And where do we even begin? As a CBeebies programme, there's bound to be a few moments that were supposed to be dramatic and serious, but the exaggerated acting and the situations makes it utterly hilarious.
    • All of the scenes where Grandpa becomes an obvious CGI model, and he looks like a blatant cartoon character judging from the animations.
    • In the episode "The Wonderful World of Mr Whoops", the scene where Grandpa falls off a roof is just too funny to watch.
    • Cousin Alvin in the episode "Sweet Dreams For Cousin Alvin", especially the parts when he says things you wouldn't expect a typical teenager to say.
    • The way Troy behaves in the episode "A Toy For A Boy Called Troy". All of the things he does are so dramatised, it's almost unrealistic.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Shaheen Jafargholi, who plays Troy, would go on to play Shakil Kazemi in EastEnders as well as Marty Kirkby in Holby City.
    • Lorna Laidlaw, who plays Miss Smiley, would go on to play Aggie Bailey in Coronation Street.
  • Squick: Any of the food Great Aunt Loretta's cooking can be pretty stomach churning, even just visually.
