YMMV / Godfall

  • Awesome Art: While its overall art direction was met with mixed reactions, the game's cover art was noted for being stunning.
    • The Valorplates all sport impressive designs with special mentions going towards Greyhawk, Phoenix, and Silvermane. (There’s a reason why they are on the cover of the game, with the later being the face of the game.)
  • Cliché Storm: The story itself is generally criticized for its lack of flavor and being largely derivative of other High Fantasy, with even its usage of Roaring Rampage of Revenge and Cain and Abel undertones are noted to remained confined within their archetypical elements.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: Hinterclaw is the most popular/saught after Valorplate for Endgame. This is primarily because of his primary stats making significant increase to Critical Damage. Plus given he is the only Valorplate that can be unlocked after completing the story, this gives players more of an incentive to collect him.
    • Armistice is also quite a common choice. Thanks to his promising augment tree note  and his base stats with Breach damage that prove effective in combat.
    • It isn’t uncommon for players to stick with the starting valorplate, Silvermane. This is due to the fact that he proves to have good build potential all the way through endgame and has useful base stats.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Orin's default voice. It's immensely satisfying to listen to.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Moirax. By the time his first appearance is complete, he has killed Zenun, drained Seventh Sanctum of her power, and effortlessly beaten Orin by simply telekinetically freezing them in mid-air. It's a hell of a first impression and communicates just how much bad news he is.
  • Play the Game, Skip the Story: Even those who enjoyed the looter based gameplay find the cliched story and High Fantasy setting to be among the game’s weakest elements. It was too the point when the Fire And Darkness expansion was announced, many among the fanbase questioned why they even bothered attempting on expanding the story.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Up until version 2.3.15, the game completely lacked a Mass Salvage or Auto-Salvage mechanic. Given the sheer amount of loot that the game throws at you in the endgame, this lead to the player needing to spend minutes at a time emptying out their inventory in between activities.
    • You cannot cancel out of attack animations with a dodge or a block, leading to a lot of situations where you end up taking damage because you started an attack right before the enemy attacked, and are locked into the animation and cannot defend yourself. There's also no input queueing, so if you press a button while one animation is still playing out (like trying to roll before you've finished lowering your shield from the block stance), the game will simply ignore it.
    • The lock-on feature. The camera doesn't focus on locked-on enemies, so when they move offscreen, they're not being targeted anymore.
    • The Shield Throw, a move used to trigger switches, has a 20-second cooldown.
    • There is neither an in-game map or compass. While you are thankfully given intuitive mission markers to navigate you to mission objectives, trying to just explore a Realm outside a main mission can be a pain. Good luck trying to find all the Lore Fragments when you can't even tell where you are at any given time.
    • The fact that the game always requires an internet connection is a sore spot for many. It doesn’t help that there doesn’t seem a point to it given that most of the content can be played in single player.
  • So Okay, It's Average: The general consensus is that Godfall gets a lot right with its loot system and the swordplay can be fun once you get the hang of it, but everything else is a mixed bag.
  • Tainted by the Preview:
    • The reveal trailer received generally unimpressed reactions, with many feeling underwhelmed not only by its uninspired aesthetics, but also due to the fact it was the very first title confirmed for the then-upcoming PlayStation 5.
    • The gameplay reveal trailer didn't do this game any favors either. As the first looking in the game after its initial announcement six months earlier, many found it to be yet another underwhelming showcase of the title, particularly for using Ohana Bam's "Make Way for The King" as the background music.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Both fans and critics of the game often agree that The War between Orin’s and Macros armies that was briefly shown in the intro cinematic had more potential than the actual story that was given.
