YMMV / Giraffe Town

Go To

  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Big Dog is basically everyone's favorite character. You'd be hard pressed to find someone that didn't find his death at the end of the game extremely upsetting.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Big Dog really believes in Giraffe and eventually says that he's proud of him and all the progress he's made, confiding in him that even though Love wasn't real, sucess is. The friendship that develops between Big Dog and Giraffe is really the only genuine connection that either character really has, and it's honestly rather sweet.
    • Giraffe's character arc. He goes from being a depressed loser who delusionally claims a pop star he hasn't even met to be his girlfriend, to a badass who takes down multiple eldritch abominations with the help of his true companions and the tools that they've provided him with, and then finally to the guardian of his world with a new sense of purpose.
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The "Love" mask. The unsettling breathing and POV shots combine into a very unsettling and disorienting experience. What's worse is that we don't even know whether Love was just something the serial killer made up to lure other giraffes in, or if she was real and the killer murdered her and skinned her. Neither idea is even remotely comforting.
    • Then shortly after we're treated to the serial killer cutting off Giraffe's head, with sickening crunches that imply he experienced his decapitation before the killer holds it by his antlers as we look into his cold, lifeless, dead eyes and blood smeared face.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Big Dog's death. Everyone who's played the game will attest that they found it weirdly upsetting.
    • Even worse is the implication that Giraffe will now have to live on without the one real friend he made, and he doesn't even have half the memories he got to make with the guy. The only reward he personally gets for the hell he's been through is the sense of purpose his new title has, but even that is cold when half the world has fallen apart and there's nobody for him to share it with.
