YMMV / Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

Go To

  • Game-Breaker: The M-109 Ballista (an antimaterial rifle) in Advanced Warfighter. Since weight does not really matter, players can run around with this monster rifle, lay down and kill just about anything in one shot. One does not even need to get too good a hit due to the high-explosive shells.
  • Good Bad Bugs: You and your team have a decent portion of your health restored if you reload from the last checkpoint (though it's unclear if this is a bug or an Anti-Frustration Feature).
    • Also in AW1 was a mistake with some of the weapon statistics. In particular, the SCAR-H held 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and therefore became hands down the best rifle in the world. In real life, it usually has a 20 round magazine. They fixed it in the sequel, but as of yet, the Xbox 360 version of the original still has that error. Why is it not just a fancy high-cap magazine? Because visually it's just a standard-sized 20-round magazine... a 50-round 7.62x51mm mag would either be at least as long as your forearm, or a large drum.
  • Porting Disaster: The PS2 and Xbox versions of Advanced Warfighter are a very cut down remake/reimagining of the game with very linear levels, only one squadmate, graphics which look worse than Ghost Recon 2, poor animations and poorer AI. The PS2 version has simplified level geometry (much less detailed buildings, objects such as trees and concrete pylons removed from the streets) and also had to remove ragdoll physics and most animations have a lot of cut frames, making NPCs look like sprites rather than 3D models and the game still runs at 15 to 25 FPS most of the time. The Xbox version is at least almost comparable to other 6th gen shooters like Black or Shadow Ops: Red Mercury, while the PS2 version at times approaches a level of simplicity almost at the level of pre-Quake 90's shooters like Corridor 7 or Operation: Body Count.
  • That One Achievement: The achievement World Champion requires getting to the top of the global leaderboard. It's possible to cheat by playing against yourself on multiple Xbox Gold accounts, but it's very time-consuming and expensive.
