YMMV / Finding Forrester

  • Genius Bonus: Roger Ebert points out that Jamal's books are all well-worn in the opening shot with the exception of James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. That tome has a reputation of being widely owned but not widely-read, due to the entire book being written in a largely idiosyncratic language that is difficult to understand, and is widely considered one of the difficult works of fiction in the English language, if not the entire Western canon.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: William Forrester's backstory of being a Reclusive Artist became this after Sean Connery actually became one after the failure of his last film, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen in 2003. Heartwarming because unlike Forrester, Connery retired with no regrets and spent the last 17 years of his life playing golf and spending time with his family.
  • Memetic Mutation: Hoo boy. Pretty much the granddaddy of all memes that don't come from 4chan. Gave the internet the phrase: "You're the man now, dog." and spawned the website YTMND.
  • Narm: The infamous "Punch the keys for God's sake! Yes, yes! You're the man now, dog!" It's even weirder in context, which for some elevates it to Narm Charm.
