* SignatureScene: Marc Anthony watching as his owner bakes what he believes is his kitten into a batch of cookies. ''WesternAnimation/MonstersInc'' famously recreated the sequences beat-for-beat when Sully thinks Boo has been dumped into a trash compactor.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Armed with the knowledge that the kitten is perfectly safe, we're allowed to laugh at Marc Anthony's trauma over his (supposed) death, then getting salt rubbed in his wounds when his mistress gives him a kitten-shapped cookie, unaware of its sentimental value.

** Also, the first scene of Marc Anthony warming up to Pussyfoot after his attempts to scare her, in particular [[MickeyMousing his eyebrows bouncing up and down with the music]] as he looks directly at the viewer.

** Marc Anthony is also beloved thanks to his hilarious LargeHam moments mixed with being just so pitiable near the end.

* TheWoobie: Even if you're laughing, it's still hard not to feel sorry for Marc Anthony. While he sees Pussyfoot not long afterwards, he still genuinely believes that his new friend has been killed, and it's clear he's completely heartbroken over it. Chuck Jones himself couldn't help crying for the poor dog, even though he made the cartoon with the idea that nobody would take his grief seriously. Luckily he snaps out of his depression as soon as he spots Pussyfoot.

* MisaimedFandom: Note that this whole short was only intended to be ''funny''. Chuck Jones didn't think anybody would take the infamous "cookie baking heartbreak" scene at face value.

* MisaimedFandom: Note that this whole short was only intended to be ''funny''. [[TropesAreTools A positive example]]: Chuck Jones didn't think anybody would take the infamous "cookie baking heartbreak" scene at face value.value and only intended it as BlackComedy, yet even he was surprised how much watching it made him tear up.

** Marc Anthony believing that his beloved kitten has been turned into a cookie. At first, it's [[BlackComedy hilariously dark]], but it becomes [[SeriousBusiness genuinely tragic]] when a heartbroken Marc Anthony takes the kitten-shaped cookie from his mistress, puts it on his back where the kitten used to sleep and bursts into tears. Even Chuck Jones was surprised at how much he teared up when viewing the final film.

* MemeticMutation: The shot of Marc Anthony in the "Thinker" pose, while squishing Pussyfoot's face into a smug expression. Plenty of redraws have been made, replacing them with other "[[BigGuyLittleGuy best friends with a comical size contrast]]".
