YMMV / Family Guy S 2 E 8 I Am Peter Hear Me Roar

Go To

  • Values Dissonance: In the episode's commentary (on the Freakin' Sweet Collection DVD), one of the writers reveals that Gloria Ironbachs' surname was an inside joke referring to a female student at his college who he and his friends called "iron box" because she wouldn't have sex with them, which could be easily viewed as a sign of the writers' misogyny.
  • Values Resonance:
    • With workplace sexual harassment remaining a hot-button topic decades after the episode air, Peter telling a sexist joke at work and admitting to videotaping a female coworker without her consent and knowledge would still very much get him in trouble.
    • Lois and Gloria's verbal confrontation (right before their physical confrontation) was made in part for the writers to voice their pro-feminist sentiment: in the face of Gloria self-righteously demeaning Lois for being "just a housewife" with no career of her own, Lois makes it clear that "feminism is about choice; I choose to be a wife and mother." The sentiment was relevant in 2000, it's still relevant today.
