- Common Knowledge: One reason (the other is a grim reaper being visible in the graveyard she is visiting) some fans think Marshall's crush Melanie dies offscreen after saying she needs some time alone at the end of their sole episode is because of a line in his narration that he never saw her again after that meeting. What he actually says is that he never kissed her again after that meeting.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: The Captain Ahab Expy storm chaser and Melanie, a classmate who starts acting differently after a heart transplant in one of the more Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane episodes and is played by Danielle Harris, are each only in one episode but are among the better-remembered characters from the show.
- The Woobie: Sara Bob in "Who's Who". Her family treats her like a virtual slave, try to obliterate her dreams, and are generally a bunch of lazy jerkasses. Fortunately, she earns her happy ending and teaches her family a lesson in cleanliness.
