YMMV / Eat Your Kimchi

  • Base Breaker: Eat Your Kimchi itself is polarizing in the Korean Pop Music fan community to the point that even mentioning them on some websites will cause a significant Internet Backdraft. Detractors cite one of the biggest criticisms being Simon and Martina constantly criticizing the Engrish and pronunciation of non-native English speaking Korean artists, while neither speak Korean and mispronounce names/words at times. Furthermore, they are criticized for being representatives of Korean culture, while neither them are native to it.
    • Another criticism is their tendency to do a fair amount of Slut-Shaming for any female artist who goes for an overt sexy concept, Hyuna being one of their biggest targets.
    • Bordering on Internet Backdraft, Eat Your Kimchi's decision to move to Japan drew ire from the Korean Pop Music community and Koreans themselves. Prior to their departure, they had a Kickstarter for funding their own studio and even opened up an English-learning cafe. However, a year later, they decided to close the studio and move to Japan, making some donators feel betrayed. Shortly after they moved, they even released a video comparing Japan to Korea, where they made their preference for Japan known while being negative about Korea. The majority of their Korean fan bases to turn against them, accusing them of exploiting people's interest in South Korea for money.
  • Crowning Moment of Heartwarming: They have posted videos about their relationship, engagement, and wedding.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The naked vampires in the Japan videos.
  • Periphery Demographic: The videos were originally created for their family and friends to see what they were up to. Now millions of other people watch them.
  • Tear Jerker: When they announced they were moving to Japan and the reasons behind it. While filming their last few days in Korea, Martina gets drunk on wine on the last day and cries while thanking her husband for going on this adventure with her.
