YMMV / DuckTales (2017) S1 E13 "Beware the B.U.D.D.Y. System!"

Go To

  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Launchpad mentions that doing his own stunts caused Starling to get banged up in later seasons. Wonder if this is why his sanity has gone downhill.
    • Gyro freaks out when he learns Fenton inadvertently shared his designs with a villain. Season three shows what happened the last time his work fell into the hands of someone with ulterior motives.
  • I Knew It!: Many fans speculated that in this show, Darkwing Duck would be a fictional character and not an actual superhero. What none of them expected... He wasn't an actual superhero Yet.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Many fans tuned in because Lin-Manuel Miranda was guest-starring as Gizmoduck.
    • Other fans were only looking forward to the appearance of Darkwing Duck - only to find that he's actually only part of a Show Within a Show. The fandom is pretty divided on the latter: on the one hand, the scene we see is a perfect Homage to the original show that stirs many nostalgic feelings; on the other hand, many fans were hoping for a proper Crossover with Darkwing encountering Scrooge's family in person (especially with Saint Canard having been mentioned and F.O.W.L. being referenced as a Freeze-Frame Bonus in the pilot). That said, the creators did say Darkwing's appearance here is just the beginning...
  • Memetic Mutation: The villain Liquidator has been called Thiccquidator thanks to his new, beefed up appearance.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The entire cold open, which features Darkwing Duck, and three of the Fearsome Five (Quackerjack, Megavolt, and Liquidator).
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Who would have expected the Headless Man-Horse to make a reappearance?
    • We knew Darkwing Duck would show up, but not in this episode.
  • The Woobie: It isn't hard to feel sorry for Launchpad, who only recently after earning his driver's license, fears he may be replaced by one of Beaks' robot drivers, challenging what he's learned about "thinking with your gut" to the point where he tries to play it safe.
    • Fenton, too. He's constantly demeaned and insulted by his boss, and his attempts to help others only end up backfiring on him.
