- Broken Base: The film is supposedly very faithful to the original comic book, and thus it is distinctively manhua-like itself. Whether that is an awesome thing or it makes it just a kitschy popcorn film is a heated debate.
- Narm Charm: People creating qi bells by swinging nunchakus around them? A caped masked villain who owns a ridiculously large punching bag? A wig wearing Donnie Yen palmstriking said villain through several stone floors? Well, why not?
- Questionable Casting: Given that Yen is much more known for his intense, MMA-spirited films like Sha Po Lang and Flash Point, the viewer might wonder why they did not cast Jet Li or a similarly stagy action star for this film full of magical kung fu and comic book narm. Not to mention the fact that Yen is playing here a teenager.
- Special Effect Failure: They are not really bad, but for the time of the film, they weren't as great as they should have been.
