Funny Moments: At one point, Lyrics aired right after Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? on FOX. One night, a contestant named Ashley McCohn flopped on the first question on Fifth Grader. The producers seemed to like her, as she was personally invited by Wayne to come on Lyrics right afterward...where she made it to the $10,000 song and was faced with a choice between China Grove and the Green Acres theme in a category about TV theme songs. Despite she and her backup singer claiming that they had never even seen the show before, she went ahead with Green Acres, burned away all of her remaining Backups, and promptly walked away with nothing.
What an Idiot: Really, McCohn, picking the Green Acres theme despite neither you or your backup singer having ever seen the show?
A contestant once needed three words of Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman". She used her last backup: 2 words. She chooses the second word first which is "Am", instead of using logic and knowing the only that can come before am is I, she chooses the first word which is indeed I but had no idea what the third word was and missed the question. If she had just used common sense and chosen the third word, she would have got it right.
