• One-Scene Wonder:
  • Amelia's lawyer, who spends his screen time laying out the need for her to visit Haleakolowa while getting in quite a few Servile Snarker comments about Boston's moral standards.
  • Festus, the Australian sailor who is ordered by his brother and superior officer to fight alongside Donovan and Gilhooley in a bar fight to even the odds and ends up taking things further than his brother had anticipated.
• Tear Jerker: While relatively minor, poor Father Clutzoe's reaction to the Christmas mass celebration being interrupted by heavy rainstorm, thanks to the leaky roof. He just sits down and stares sadly as everybody else pulls out an umbrella. Though it becomes a slightly happier tearjerker when one of the children comes to him and uses her umbrella to shield him.
