YMMV / Deadpool & Wolverine

Go To

  • Fanfic Fuel: The trailer reveals that the TVA can recruit heroes from the X-Men universe, so what happens if they started interacting with the other characters from that world, or that of the Sony Spider-Man Universe? Maybe the TVA secretly started recruiting characters from the latter films after all, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home...
  • Fridge Horror:
    • In the official trailer, Wolverine is daring Deadpool to put a bullet between his eyes, which should only affect his flesh thanks to his adamantium... except that that part of his skull should have been weakened by an adamantium bullet. Granted he does get shot there in X2, but this one's at point blank range...
    • The trailer shows that there's a variant of Giant-Man who died in combat, and whose corpse is being used as a living hub of sorts for survivors in the Void. This indicates that there may be an alternate universe where Scott lost against Kang the Conqueror, or alternatively, was pruned by the TVA for doing something wrong against Kang before the events of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
  • I Knew It!:
    • When the film was announced, and confirmed Wolverine's involvement, fans hoped that Hugh Jackman would wear a more comics accurate suit he never donned in the X-Men films themselves (a version of it that wasn't worn by him appeared in a invokedDeleted Scene of The Wolverine). A publicity still confirmed Jackman would indeed finally wear a yellow and blue suit (based on the newer design from Astonishing X-Men, not the "classic" one as seen in X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men '97, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc).
    • Given that this was the Fox iteration of Deadpool, and that version exists outside the MCU, many suspected that the Time Variance Authority introduced in Loki would be involved in bringing him into the MCU's continuity, especially considering the ending of Deadpool 2 had Wade messing around with time travel. The first teaser confirmed fans' suspicions.
  • Improved Second Attempt:
    • This film's very existence is more-or-less an apology for how disappointing the interactions between the titular characters were in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with both Logan and Wade wearing comic-accurate costumes and engaging in foul banter together as they attempt to save the world.
    • The X-Men Film Series was infamous for never depicting Wolverine in a comic-accurate costume, even after making allusions to it in various installments and outright teasing it in the (deleted) final scene of The Wolverine. This movie finally gives Logan his yellow and blue spandex, complete with Hugh Jackman reprising the role.
    • The trailer suggests that the film will be Truer to the Text to Old Man Logan than Logan by featuring a post-apocalyptic universe with fallen Marvel heroes like Ant-Man, as opposed to the latter which was localized to the universe of Fox's X-Men.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: It's in the title! Two of the biggest stars in the X-Men film series coming together for a standoff in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.
  • Most Wonderful Sound: Boy, is that "SNIKT!" sound of Wolverine's claws still beautiful!
  • Nightmare Fuel:
    • The second trailer implies that the world Wolverine came from went to hell, including him collapsing in front of a row of what appear to be headstones.
    • Deadpool and Wolverine's time in the Void includes them visiting a Giant-Man corpse, complete with a mummified skull underneath the helmet. This, as well, appears to be Cassandra Nova's base of operations.
  • Ugly Cute: Dogpool is played by Peggy, a Pug and Chinese Crested mix voted the 2023 ugliest dog in Britain. Despite this, Peggy's small size and friendly demeanor makes Dogpool cute all the same.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • The first trailer for the film gives us a glimpse of none other than Pyro, a character who hasn't been seen since X-Men: The Last Stand, complete with Aaron Stanford reprising the role and wearing a comics-accurate costume. Needless to say, nobody was expecting to see him appear in a Deadpool movie.
    • The main trailer briefly showcases Azazel and Lady Deathstrike as returning characters. Their appearances were equally as shocking, given that Azazel was Killed Offscreen after the events of X-Men: First Class, and Deathstrike had died at Logan's hands in X2: X-Men United.
    • Shatterstar being brought back is also fairly surprising, since he died quickly in Deadpool 2 and both the movie and Deadpool himself reveled in it. Apparently Wade had a change of heart and went back in time to save him.
    • Even more unexpected of a return was Jennifer Garner as her iteration of Elektra, considering her film was a Box Office Bomb that she herself has disowned. The recent reintegration of the Netflix show's Daredevil into the wider MCU also meant that Garner's Elektra showing up was even more of a surprise.
    • Though it's only as a gigantic corpse, seeing a variant of Ant-Man appear in the main trailer was still quite a surprise, given how little involvement the character has with Deadpool or the X-Men, besides his giant corpse being shown in Old Man Logan.
    • Alioth returning in this film is also quite the surprise, given its close connection to Kang in the MCU, and having last been seen being tamed by Loki and Sylvie in the former's titular show.
